‘Franco Grignani: Art as Design 1950-1990’ at London’s Estorick Collection (5 July – 10 September 2017) in Canonbury Square embraces many strands of the influential Italian’s work as both artist and graphic designer. Exhibits range from geometrically wrought drawings and paintings to his equally rigorous commercial art for clients including Alfieri & Lacroix (left, a 1959 advert for the printer), Pirelli, Fiat, Penguin. Also included is his anonymously submitted design for the enduring British ‘Woolmark’ (above, 1963). The catalogue, published by Silvana Editoriale, includes essays by Enrica de Biasi, Vicky Gitto and curator Marco Meneguzzo.
